Cyclone Fani made landfall in Odisha Friday morning
New Delhi. Cyclone Fani (pronounced Foni) made landfall in Odisha on Friday morning. The state is on high alert with teams of the Army, Navy, Coast Guard and National Disaster Relief Force (NDRF) on standby for rescue and relief operations.
The storm, which entered the state near Puri, brought with it gusty winds at 174 kmph and sheets of rain.
The ‘extremely severe’ cyclonic storm, which emerged from the Bay of Bengal, is the worst to hit India in the last decade.
At least seven lakh people have already been evacuated from the coast in Odisha. The storm is also likely to have an impact on Andhra Pradesh, West Bengal and Tamil Nadu. Bangladesh, too, is on alert due to Cyclone Fani.
