New Delhi. Samsung Galaxy S10 series will feature an ultrasonic fingerprint sensor, but no iris scanner, says tipster Ice Universe.
In a series of tweets, the famed tipster claims that the South Korean smartphone maker would drop the iris scanner completely, but would rely on the in-display fingerprint sensor instead.
As per the tweets, Ice Universe has said that Galaxy S10 phones will feature an ultrasonic fingerprint sensor, which will better optical sensors seen on other flagship phones.
Besides claiming that the Galaxy S10 has a faster fingerprint scanner, they have also said that it can be recognised on 30 per cent of the screen area. In a follow-up, the tipster added that the ultrasonic fingerprint sensor would remain exclusive to Samsung for the first half of 2019.
While optical fingerprint sensors, such as the one seen on OnePlus 6T, depending on a light source for fingerprint mapping and recognition, the ultrasonic fingerprint scanner would detect the same through low-frequency sounds as reported by Indian Express.
For 3D scans of a user’s fingerprint, the new technology shoots out pulses of ultrasonic waves, and detects the pattern based on the deflection across various surfaces of the finger. While this information still remains a rumour, if it does turn out to be true, it would mean that Samsung could introduce a new display for Galaxy S10.
Of the leaks generated in the recent past, Samsung’s upcoming flagship series is considered to offer up to five cameras, with three expected on the back, and two on the front.
A report had also suggested that the base variant could come with 6GB RAM/64GB internal storage, and a screen-to-body ratio of 93.4 per cent. Samsung will reportedly launch its Galaxy S10 at the MWC 2019 in Barcelona.
