{"id":6347,"date":"2026-04-21T15:52:10","date_gmt":"2026-04-21T10:07:10","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/timesasian.com\/?p=6347"},"modified":"2026-04-21T15:56:42","modified_gmt":"2026-04-21T10:11:42","slug":"global-leaders-urge-swift-action-on-sevilla-commitment-at-un-financing-forum","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/timesasian.com\/?p=6347","title":{"rendered":"Global Leaders Urge for the Swift Action on Sevilla Commitment at UN Financing Forum"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><span style=\"font-size: 18px;\"><b>By Raju Lama<\/b><\/span><br \/>\n<span style=\"font-size: 18px;\"><b>New York<\/b><\/span><span style=\"font-size: 18px;\"> \u2014 Global leaders called for urgent and coordinated action to address mounting challenges in development financing as the Financing for Development (FFD) Forum opened at the United Nations Headquarters.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-size: 18px;\">Opening the high-level forum, speakers highlighted growing concerns over a fragile global economy, rising borrowing costs, and declining Official Development Assistance (ODA), warning that these pressures are widening financing gaps for developing nations.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-size: 18px;\">\u201cThis moment of crisis for development financing only further underlines the need to implement the Sevilla Commitment in full, and in a timely manner,\u201d a senior UN official stated in the opening remarks.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-size: 18px;\">Echoing the urgency, Lok Bahadur Thapa, President of the Economic and Social Council (ECOSOC), stressed that multilateral cooperation remains essential in addressing global financial challenges.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-size: 18px;\">\u201cAt a time of deep uncertainty in the global economy, our collective response must be anchored in stronger multilateralism and renewed international cooperation,\u201d Thapa said. \u201cWe must ensure that commitments translate into real financing solutions for the countries that need them most.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-size: 18px;\">The forum brings together government leaders, financial institutions, and policy experts to accelerate progress on sustainable development financing and review global commitments.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-size: 18px;\">Speakers emphasized that without decisive global solidarity, efforts to achieve the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) could face significant setbacks.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-size: 18px;\">\u201cA strong commitment to multilateralism, international cooperation, and global solidarity is the only way to unlock the needed resources to advance sustainable development across the globe,\u201d the opening statement added.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-size: 18px;\">Reinforcing the call for action, ECOSOC President Thapa urged member states to move beyond dialogue and deliver tangible outcomes.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-size: 18px;\">\u201cNow is the time to mobilize political will and act with urgency,\u201d he said.<\/span><br \/>\n<span style=\"font-size: 18px;\">\u201cDelivering on the promise of the Sevilla Commitment is not optional\u2014it is essential for our shared future.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-size: 18px;\">The Financing for Development Forum will continue with high-level discussions on debt sustainability, investment mobilization, and reform of the international financial architecture.<\/span><br \/>\n<!--\/data\/user\/0\/com.samsung.android.app.notes\/files\/clipdata\/clipdata_bodytext_260421_060523_763.sdocx--><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>By Raju Lama New York \u2014 Global leaders called for urgent and coordinated action to address mounting challenges in development financing as the Financing for Development (FFD) Forum opened at the United Nations Headquarters.
