Islamabad: by Ali Imran Chattha – Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Senator Mohammad Ishaq Dar held a telephonic conversation with Iranian Foreign Minister Seyed Abbas Araghchi on Thursday.
The two leaders exchanged views on the latest regional developments and discussed ongoing diplomatic efforts aimed at promoting peace and stability. Both sides underscored the importance of sustained dialogue and constructive engagement to address outstanding issues and prevent further escalation.
Foreign Minister Araghchi briefed Deputy Prime Minister Dar on his recent visit to China and the in-depth consultations held there on regional and international issues of mutual interest to Iran and Pakistan.
Araghchi expressed gratitude to Pakistan for facilitating the repatriation of Iranian nationals from the seized vessels earlier. He particularly appreciated Pakistan’s continued diplomatic and humanitarian support in this regard, viewing it as a positive confidence-building measure.
On the Iran-US track, Foreign Minister Araghchi updated that Iran is carefully reviewing the latest American proposals aimed at de-escalation, including matters related to the Strait of Hormuz and broader regional issues. Tehran had earlier conveyed a detailed response to previous US offers through Pakistani diplomatic channels, stressing the need for any agreement to include lifting of sanctions, release of frozen assets, and credible guarantees against future aggression. No final position on the most recent US offer has been announced as Iran continues to finalise its assessment.
The conversation highlighted the strong bilateral ties between Pakistan and Iran and their shared commitment to regional peace. Both ministers agreed on the need for close coordination and continued high-level contacts to navigate the complex regional situation effectively.
This engagement reflects Pakistan’s active diplomatic role in fostering de-escalation, supporting humanitarian initiatives, and facilitating communication amid broader regional tensions. The two sides reaffirmed their dedication to working together for lasting stability and mutual cooperation.
