SJF appealed International community to support journalists of Afghanistan

"The situation is critical and getting worse day by day, so we request the regional and international organizations or states for support and help," Secretary of SAARC Journalists Forum SJF Khalil Rahman Omaid said with Times Asian.

Dhaka/Kathmandu. SAARC Journalists Forum, SJF appealed governments of SAARC region and International community to support journalists of Afghanistan in present situation.

SJF President Raju Lama and Secretary General MD Abdur Rahman released an appeal for international community urging support to the journalists of Afghanistan.

Press statement released by SJF

“The Taliban has had an aggressive influence in Afghanistan since the recent announcement of the withdrawal of US troops from the country. The Taliban have seized about 70 percent of Afghanistan,” stated in statement.

“In such a situation, many TV centers and radio stations have closed down. Many journalists have been fired, many have become unemployed and are under threat. As far as we know, about 200 journalists have been fired,” mentioned in statement released by SJF Headquarters.

“In this situation, we are appealing to the Afghan government as well as world community that Afghanistan Journalists need to be rehabilitated. Journalists need to lend a helping hand. On behalf of the SAARC Journalists Forum, we are saddened on the dismissed journalists in Afghanistan and strongly condemn this,” said in a statement.
