Kathmandu. Amidst the ongoing political turmoil in Nepal, the Sangha Welfare Committee of the Buddhist Monks of Lumbini Buddhist University (LBU), in association with the Bhot Buddhist Studies Program, organized a special mass prayer ceremony this morning at the University Hostel. The gathering sought to invoke blessings for the restoration of peace, harmony, and prosperity in Nepal, as well as for world peace in general.
The event witnessed the participation of monks, nuns, and resident teachers, who collectively dedicated their prayers to the departed souls of those who lost their lives during the recent mass revolution in Nepal. The prayer also symbolized the University community’s heartfelt solidarity with all who continue to be affected by unrest and instability.
Alongside the monastic community, several distinguished faculty members and scholars of LBU joined the prayer, including Ven. Dr. Nyima Sherpa, Ven. Yeshe Dorji, Ven. Khenpo Phurpa Sherpa, Ven. Dhungse Khenpo Sherpa, Dr. Manik Ratna Shakya, Dr. Indra Prasad Kafle, Dr. Nir Bahadur Gurung, Dr. Fanindra Neupane, Prof. Arvind Singh, Anju Khanal, Neshan Shreshtha, Vijay Singh, Imran Ahmed, among others.
Speaking on the occasion, representatives of the Sangha Welfare Committee Ven. Yeshe Dorji emphasized that the prayer gathering was not only a spiritual response to the current crisis but also an expression of the timeless Buddhist values of compassion, non-violence, and harmony. They underscored the role of Lumbinī, the sacred birthplace of the Buddha, as a beacon of peace for humanity and reaffirmed the University’s commitment to promoting dialogue, healing, and reconciliation.
The participants concluded with a collective aspiration that Nepal may soon return to normalcy and continue on its path toward unity and prosperity, while also extending their prayers for the well-being of all beings across the world.
