Versailles, France | June 18, 2026 – U.S. President Donald Trump has formally signed an agreement extending the ceasefire between the United States and Iran during a ceremony at the historic Palace of Versailles, on the sidelines of the G7 Summit in France. The agreement aims to prolong the current truce for an additional 60 days while both sides negotiate a broader and more permanent peace settlement.
The accord, signed by Trump and Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian, includes provisions to maintain the ceasefire, reopen the strategic Strait of Hormuz to international shipping, and continue diplomatic talks on Iran’s nuclear program under international oversight.
Speaking after the signing, Trump described the agreement as a major diplomatic breakthrough that could bring stability to the Middle East and global energy markets. However, he warned that the United States could resume military action if Iran fails to comply with the terms of the deal.
French President Emmanuel Macron welcomed the agreement, calling it an important step toward regional peace. G7 leaders broadly supported the initiative, though some concerns remain regarding its long-term implementation and the future of Iran’s missile and nuclear programs.
The Versailles signing is being viewed as one of the most significant diplomatic developments between Washington and Tehran in decades, with negotiators expected to continue talks over the coming weeks in an effort to secure a lasting peace agreement.
