SJF calls on Taliban to allow all journalists to work independently in Afghanistan

"The Taliban have searched the home of a media editor in western Afghanistan, which is bad for journalists. We strongly protest on behalf of the SAARC Journalists Forum," said in press statement released by SJF President Raju Lama and Secretary General MD Abdur Rahman today.

Kathmandu. The SAARC Journalists Forum, SJF calls on the Taliban to allow all journalists, including women journalists, to work independently in Afghanistan.

“Since August 15, Taliban members have barred at least two female journalists from working on public broadcaster radio and television in Afghanistan. The Taliban attacked two media workers while covering a protest rally in eastern Nangarhar province,” said in press statement released by SJF.

SJF further said,” The dismissal of well-known female news presenters from the public media is an ominous sign. This shows that the Taliban have no desire to honor the promises made by the media or elsewhere in Afghanistan to respect women’s rights. The Taliban should allow women to cover the news and allow all journalists to work safely and without interference.”

“The Taliban have searched the home of a media editor in western Afghanistan, which is bad for journalists. We strongly protest on behalf of the SAARC Journalists Forum,” said in press statement released by SJF President Raju Lama and Secretary General MD Abdur Rahman today.
