Islamabad. Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Ishaq Dar said Pakistan had successfully secured the return of Pakistani nationals and also facilitated the repatriation of 20 Iranian citizens following the seizure of vessels by United States authorities near Singaporean waters.
According to officials, the vessels carrying Pakistani and Iranian seafarers were intercepted by US authorities as part of an international maritime enforcement operation linked to sanctions and shipping regulations. After the incident, several crew members faced uncertainty regarding their legal status and return arrangements.
Dar stated that Pakistan immediately established contact with US officials, Singaporean authorities, and the Iranian government to ensure the safety and welfare of the affected crew members. He said Pakistan’s Foreign Office and diplomatic missions remained actively engaged throughout the process.
The foreign minister noted that the return of both Pakistani and Iranian citizens became possible due to close coordination between Pakistan, United States, Singapore, and Iran. He appreciated Singapore’s logistical support and acknowledged the role of US authorities in facilitating consular access and communication during the operation.
Dar further said that Pakistan remained committed to protecting its citizens abroad and was also willing to assist neighboring countries on humanitarian grounds. He added that Islamabad had offered transit and logistical support for the safe return of Iranian nationals through Pakistani territory if required.
Officials said the affected seafarers had undergone necessary legal and immigration procedures before being cleared for repatriation. The successful diplomatic engagement was viewed as an example of regional and international cooperation in handling sensitive maritime and humanitarian matters.
