Beijing. Chinese President Xi Jinping and Russian President Vladimir Putin are expected to hold high-level talks during Putin’s upcoming state visit to China this week.
According to China’s Foreign Ministry, the two leaders will exchange views on bilateral relations, strategic cooperation, and major international and regional issues of mutual concern.
The Kremlin said the visit will focus on strengthening the “strategic partnership” between Moscow and Beijing, including economic cooperation, energy projects, trade, and geopolitical coordination. Russian officials also indicated that discussions may include the proposed “Power of Siberia 2” gas pipeline project linking Russia and China.
Chinese officials described the visit as an effort to deepen cooperation and “inject more stability and positive energy into the world” amid growing global uncertainty.
The summit comes only days after U.S. President Donald Trump completed his own visit to Beijing, highlighting China’s increasing diplomatic importance in global affairs. Analysts say the Xi-Putin meeting will likely address the Ukraine conflict, U.S.-China relations, Taiwan, energy security, and coordination within BRICS and the Shanghai Cooperation Organization.
Reports also note that trade between China and Russia has grown significantly since Western sanctions were imposed on Moscow over the Ukraine war, making China one of Russia’s most important economic partners.
