Rome, May 20, 2026 – Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi met Italian Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni in Rome during the final leg of Modi’s five-nation diplomatic tour, with both leaders holding informal discussions ahead of official bilateral talks. The meeting highlighted the growing strategic partnership between India and Italy.
According to reports, the two leaders shared a dinner meeting and visited the iconic Colosseum together before formal discussions scheduled in Rome. Talks are expected to focus on trade, technology, defense cooperation, artificial intelligence, and the India-Middle East-Europe Economic Corridor (IMEC).
Italian Prime Minister Meloni welcomed Modi warmly, calling him a “friend” in a social media post, while Modi said the leaders exchanged views on a wide range of subjects and would continue discussions on strengthening India-Italy ties.
The visit is expected to result in deeper cooperation between the two countries, including plans to upgrade bilateral relations through a new strategic framework and increased trade targets in the coming years.
