New Delhi, June 8, 2026 – His Holiness the Dalai Lama successfully underwent left knee replacement surgery at Apollo Hospital in New Delhi on Monday, June 8, 2026. According to his personal physicians, the procedure was successful, and His Holiness is recovering well.
Following the surgery, the 90-year-old Tibetan spiritual leader was reported to be in stable condition and in good spirits. Doctors stated that his recovery is progressing smoothly, while expressing gratitude to the medical, nursing, and administrative staff of Apollo Hospital for their care and professionalism.
The surgery comes after His Holiness traveled from Dharamshala to New Delhi earlier this month for treatment of ongoing knee-related mobility issues. He had previously undergone successful right knee replacement surgery in New York in 2024.
Across Tibetan communities, monks, nuns, and devotees organized special prayer ceremonies for the success of the operation and for His Holiness’s speedy recovery.
