Washington, June 11, 2026 – U.S. President Donald Trump has congratulated Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi after he became India’s longest-serving elected prime minister in uninterrupted service, completing 4,399 consecutive days in office and surpassing the previous record held by Jawaharlal Nehru.
In a message posted on Truth Social, Trump praised Modi as a close friend and described him as a “strong, healthy, and wise man,” adding that he expects “many years of greatness and success ahead” for the Indian leader.
The milestone has drawn congratulations from leaders around the world, while India’s Union Cabinet adopted a special resolution honoring Modi’s 12 years in office. Celebrations were also reported across India by supporters of the ruling party.
Responding to the message, Modi thanked Trump and reiterated his commitment to strengthening India–U.S. relations, with both countries expected to continue discussions on trade, investment, energy cooperation, and visa issues.
The development comes ahead of a likely meeting between Trump and Modi on the sidelines of the upcoming G7 Summit in France, where bilateral issues are expected to be discussed.
