Washington, D.C. | July 16, 2026 – U.S.  President Donald Trump delivered a nationally televised primetime address from the White House East Room on Thursday evening, placing election integrity and alleged foreign interference at the center of his remarks in what the administration had billed as a major national announcement.

During the address, Trump called for sweeping election reforms, including stricter voter identification requirements, enhanced security measures for voting systems, and greater transparency in the administration of U.S. elections. He said his administration would pursue legislative and administrative actions aimed at strengthening public confidence in the electoral process.

The president also discussed foreign interference, saying newly declassified intelligence raised concerns about vulnerabilities in U.S. election infrastructure. He pledged that federal agencies would continue investigating any attempts by foreign actors to influence American elections and emphasized that protecting the integrity of future elections was a national security priority.

The speech immediately sparked political debate. Democratic leaders criticized the president for revisiting disputed claims about previous elections, while many Republicans praised the focus on election security and called for bipartisan reforms to strengthen the voting system.

Trump concluded by urging Americans to remain united despite political differences, stating that confidence in free and fair elections is essential to preserving the nation’s democracy and institutions.
