Ian Williams Appointed Chief Advisor to Times Asian, Bringing Decades of Global Journalism Experience

NEW YORK/KATHMANDU: Times Asian is pleased to announce the appointment of Ian Williams, President of the Foreign Press Association (FPA), as an Chief Advisor to Times Asian, strengthening the publication’s international journalism network and global editorial perspective.

Williams is an award-winning journalist, author and veteran foreign correspondent with decades of experience reporting on international affairs, geopolitics, conflict and global diplomacy. He currently serves as President of the Foreign Press Association of the United States, an international, not-for-profit organization founded in New York in 1918 to support foreign correspondents and promote international understanding through global journalism.

Throughout his distinguished career, Williams has reported from some of the world’s most important and challenging regions. According to his professional biography, he worked as a foreign correspondent for Channel 4 News, including assignments in Moscow and Asia, before joining NBC News, where he was based in Bangkok and Beijing. He has reported extensively from China and covered conflicts in the Balkans, the Middle East and Ukraine. His reporting on Serb detention camps during the Bosnian war earned him Emmy and BAFTA recognition.

Williams has also been an active voice on issues affecting foreign correspondents and press freedom. During his tenure at the FPA, he has advocated for the rights and working conditions of international journalists, including speaking publicly about proposed changes to U.S. visa rules affecting foreign journalists.

Strengthening Times Asian’s Global Outlook
As an Chief Advisor to Times Asian, Williams will bring his extensive international journalism experience and understanding of global media to the publication’s broader international outlook.

His experience covering Asia, Europe, the Middle East and other regions provides an important perspective for a media organization focused on connecting South Asia with the wider world and bringing greater attention to international diplomacy, geopolitics, development, global institutions and press freedom.

Raju Lama, Editor-in-Chief of Times Asian, said the appointment represents an important step in the publication’s effort to expand its international journalism network and strengthen its engagement with experienced journalists and media professionals around the world.
