New Delhi, July 21: Congress MP and Leader of the Opposition in the Lok Sabha Rahul Gandhi was detained by Delhi Police on Tuesday while leading an Opposition protest near Lok Kalyan Marg, the official residence of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, over alleged irregularities in the NEET examination and the government’s handling of student protests.
Rahul Gandhi, along with Congress leaders including Priyanka Gandhi Vadra, Congress President Mallikarjun Kharge, and several Opposition leaders and party workers, marched toward the Prime Minister’s residence demanding accountability over the alleged examination irregularities and police action against student demonstrators. Police stopped the protesters at security barricades before detaining several leaders and workers.
Addressing supporters before his detention, Rahul Gandhi criticized the government’s response to the controversy and called for justice for affected students. The Congress accused the Centre of suppressing peaceful democratic protests, while Delhi Police maintained that the action was taken to enforce security restrictions in the high-security area around the Prime Minister’s residence.
The protest is the latest escalation in the political battle over the NEET examination controversy, with the Opposition demanding greater transparency, accountability, and action against those responsible for the alleged irregularities.
