New York | July 28, 2026 — U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) is expanding immigration enforcement operations across New York City as part of the Trump administration’s broader nationwide crackdown on undocumented immigration. Federal officials say the intensified operations are aimed at identifying and arresting individuals who are in the United States unlawfully, with priority given to those accused or convicted of serious crimes.

The move follows weeks of increasing immigration enforcement nationwide. Recent data indicate ICE has significantly increased arrests and detentions in recent months, with the agency averaging around 2,000 arrests per day during a major enforcement push in late June.

The expanded presence in New York has sparked strong reactions from state and city officials. New York leaders have reiterated their commitment to the state’s sanctuary policies, while federal officials argue the operations are necessary to enforce U.S. immigration law and enhance public safety.

Immigrant advocacy organizations have expressed concern that the operations could discourage immigrants from attending court hearings or accessing essential public services. Civil rights groups are also closely monitoring the enforcement actions to ensure they comply with constitutional protections and due process requirements.

The increased enforcement is expected to keep immigration at the center of political debate as the Trump administration continues to expand its deportation agenda across the United States.
