Farooq shahmeeri/Anantnag,Jammu Kashmir. Anantnag district, especially those engaged in the cultivation of paddy field, are worried about the long dry spell of weather.

Talking to new state reporter sources said that water resources have been dried up in several areas in Anantnag district. As a result, the residents of many villages are facing an acute shortage of water required for irrigation.

Talking to new state reporter a resident of Uranhall area of south Kashmir’s Anantnag District said that “this year, the farmers of the area are facing an acute shortage of water for irrigation. Most of the water resources have dried up. The LG government should find an alternative water source to deal with the drought-like situation,” he added.

This year, there is an acute water shortage for irrigation purposes, he said.

According to reports reaching Arising state, several villages in Anantnag district are also experiencing a shortage of water for irrigation purposes, including Pazalpora, Jablipora, Subhanpora, Kulgad, Tukhan, Zradipora, Wanihama, Brinty Dialgam area, and adjoining villages in the South Kashmir area of Anantnag district.

Reports further say that in some villages, due to water shortage and dry weather, paddy fields developed cracks after planting paddy.

Our paddy sapling is drying up. We are heading towards drought and starvation, said a resident of Uranhal Anantnag.

The residents said that they entirely depended on agriculture and that paddy was the main source of their livelihood and income. The situation is leading towards drought and we might face starvation, residents said.
