Greater Noida. The International Students of Buddhist Studies at Gautam Buddha University celebrated Vesak Day (Buddha Purnima) with reverence and enthusiasm. The event, held on May 8, 2024 from 06:00 PM onwards, was graced by esteemed dignitaries including the Vice Chancellor, Registrar, Dean Academics, Dean of Buddhist Studies, and all faculty members of the department of Buddhist Studies and faculties and students from other departments as well.The program commenced with enlightening addresses by Ven. Nguyen Van Quoc and Bhikkhuni Nguyen Thi My Chi, who elucidated the significance of Vesak Day in Buddhist tradition.Their insights set the stage for a day filled with spiritual reflection and celebration.Prof R K Sinha, GBU Vice Chancellor, commended the organizers for their meticulous planning and execution of the event, while Dr Vishwas Tripathi praised the organizing team and students for their dedication and motivation in organizing the event. Prof NP Malkania, Dean Academics and Prof Shweta Anand, Dean of Buddhist Studies, expressed appreciation for the global observance of Vesak Day and thanked the students for bringing the spirit of the occasion to the University campus by organizing this important event. The event featured chanting of Buddhist Sutras and a symbolic bathing ceremony of the Buddha, followed by refreshments prepared by the Vietnamese and other students. The entire program was orchestrated under the guidance of Ven. Tuan Tran and his team of Monks and nuns. Dr Arvind Kumar Singh emphasized the historical significance of Vesak Day, highlighting the three important events in the life of the Buddha that took place on this auspicious day. He noted that the event has been an annual event of the University and it has been organized continuously at Gautam Buddha University since 2013, reaffirming its status as an annual celebration of the institution. GIMS Director, Dr Brg. RK Gupta lauded the inspiration brought by the presence of Buddhist Monks and Nuns on campus, describing the event as one of the finest event organized at the University which he has witnessed till date. The Vesak Day celebration at Gautam Buddha University served as a testament to the institution’s commitment to promoting cultural understanding and spiritual enlightenment among its diverse student body.
