Dharamsala, June 3, 2026 — His Holiness the Dalai Lama was formally presented with his Grammy Award during a special ceremony at his residence in Dharamsala on Wednesday. The award was handed over by renowned sarod maestro Amjad Ali Khan, accompanied by Amaan Ali Bangash, Ayaan Ali Bangash, and Kabir Sehgal.
The Grammy was awarded in the Best Audio Book, Narration & Storytelling Recording category for the album Meditations: The Reflections of His Holiness the Dalai Lama, a unique collaboration that combines the Dalai Lama’s reflections on compassion, peace, mindfulness, and the oneness of humanity with Indian classical music.
Speaking at the ceremony, Amjad Ali Khan described the project as a profound musical journey, noting that the album brought together the voice and wisdom of the Dalai Lama with the rich traditions of Indian classical music. The musicians expressed gratitude for having had the opportunity to collaborate with His Holiness on the Grammy-winning project.
The Dalai Lama won the Grammy earlier this year, marking a significant milestone in his efforts to promote universal values of peace, compassion, environmental responsibility, and human unity through a global audience. In a message issued after the award was announced, he said he accepted the recognition with “gratitude and humility,” viewing it not as a personal achievement but as recognition of humanity’s shared responsibility.
The formal presentation ceremony highlighted the growing impact of the album’s message and its ability to bridge spirituality and music in promoting harmony and understanding around the world.
