New York — The President of the SAARC Journalist Forum held a meeting with Lok Bahadur Thapa, President of the United Nations Economic and Social Council (ECOSOC), at the United Nations Headquarters in New York, marking a significant engagement between media leadership and global multilateral diplomacy.

During the meeting, both sides discussed the role of journalism in advancing global dialogue on sustainable development, transparency, and international cooperation. The interaction took place on the sidelines of ongoing ECOSOC-related events, including forums focused on youth engagement and development financing.

President Thapa, who currently leads ECOSOC for the 2025–2026 session, emphasized the importance of inclusive communication and the media’s contribution in amplifying voices from developing regions, particularly South Asia.

The SAARC Journalist Forum President highlighted the need for stronger collaboration between international institutions and regional media platforms to ensure accurate dissemination of global policy discussions and to enhance public awareness.

ECOSOC, one of the six principal organs of the United Nations, plays a central role in coordinating economic, social, and development-related work across the UN system and provides a platform for engagement with civil society and media stakeholders.

The meeting is seen as a step toward strengthening ties between South Asian media networks and global governance institutions, reinforcing the importance of journalism in shaping international discourse.
