WASHINGTON, D.C. — Donald Trump has announced an indefinite extension of the ceasefire with Iran, following requests from leaders in Pakistan, as efforts to revive peace talks continue.
The ceasefire, which was due to expire this week, will now remain in place without a fixed deadline to allow more time for diplomacy.
Officials said the decision came after appeals from Pakistan’s Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif and Army Chief Asim Munir, who are facilitating negotiations between Washington and Tehran.
Despite the extension, uncertainty remains over the future of talks. Iran has not confirmed whether it will participate in the next round of negotiations in Islamabad, and internal divisions within its leadership continue to delay progress.
The United States has maintained pressure during the ceasefire, including continued naval operations, which Iran has criticized as violations of the truce.
President Trump warned that military action could resume if negotiations fail, highlighting the fragile nature of the current pause.
The conflict, which escalated earlier this year, has disrupted global oil markets and increased tensions across the Middle East.
