Swiss Ambassador Calls on State Minister Shama Obaed Islam

DHAKA, April 27, 2026 – The Ambassador of Switzerland to Bangladesh, H.E. Mr. Reto Renggli, paid a courtesy call on the Hon’ble State Minister for Foreign Affairs, H.E. Ms. Shama Obaed Islam, MP, at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs this morning.

​During the meeting, Ambassador Renggli extended his warm congratulations to the State Minister on her recent assumption of office. He expressed strong optimism regarding the future of bilateral ties, noting that the relationship between Switzerland and Bangladesh is poised to strengthen further in the coming years.

​Strengthening Bilateral Ties
​State Minister Shama Obaed Islam expressed her appreciation for Switzerland’s longstanding development cooperation and its consistent support for the socio-economic advancement of Bangladesh.

​The two dignitaries engaged in productive discussions aimed at diversifying the partnership. Key priority areas identified for expanded cooperation include:

​Trade and Investment:
Enhancing economic footprints in both nations.
​Pharmaceuticals: Leveraging Bangladesh’s growing healthcare manufacturing sector.
​Capacity Building: Focus on skills development and education.

​Social & Cultural Exchange:
Strengthening ties through culture, sports, and women empowerment.
​Connectivity: Increasing people-to-people contacts to foster mutual understanding.

​Looking Ahead:
6th Foreign Office Consultations
​A significant highlight of the meeting was the anticipation surrounding the 6th Bangladesh-Switzerland Foreign Office Consultations (FOC), scheduled to be held in Dhaka on June 1, 2026.

​Both sides emphasized that the upcoming FOC will serve as a vital platform to review the entire gamut of bilateral relations and provide a strategic roadmap to elevate the partnership to new heights. Report By MD Abdur Rahman Dhaka
