New York. Nepal has been elected as the chair of the United Nations Economic and Social Council (ECOSOC). Nepal also assumed office with his election to the council on Thursday.
Nepal’s Permanent Representative to the United Nations Lok Bahadur Thapa has said that Nepal’s election as the chair after assuming office of the council is a ‘historic moment’ for Nepal and Nepal’s permanent commitment to multilateralism.
Ambassador Thapa expressed his commitment to make every effort to achieve the Sustainable Development Goals as the chair and to effectively implement the initiatives taken so far towards that end, as well as to strengthen partnerships and multilateralism, according to the Permanent Mission of Nepal to the United Nations in New York.
SAARC Journalist Forum President Raju Lama congratulated Thapa for his successful tenure.
Algeria, Spain, the Dominican Republic, and Armenia have been elected as vice-chairs for the coming year of the United Nations ECOSOC.
