By Raju Lama Kathmandu – S. Paul Kapur, a senior official from the United States Department of State, arrived in Kathmandu on Monday for a three-day official visit aimed at strengthening bilateral relations between the United States and Nepal.
Kapur, who serves as Assistant Secretary of State for South and Central Asian Affairs, is expected to hold a series of high-level meetings with government leaders, policymakers, and representatives from the business community during his stay.
“This visit reflects the United States’ continued commitment to deepening its partnership with Nepal and supporting its democratic and economic development,” a U.S. Embassy spokesperson said.
Officials in Kathmandu noted that the visit comes at a crucial time, as Nepal’s new government seeks to expand international cooperation and attract foreign investment.
A senior official from Nepal’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs stated, “We welcome this important engagement with the United States. Discussions will focus on economic collaboration, regional stability, and enhancing people-to-people ties.”
Diplomatic observers say the visit also underscores Nepal’s growing strategic significance in South Asia, particularly amid increasing global interest in the region.
Kapur is scheduled to meet key cabinet members, including the foreign and finance ministers, before concluding his visit later this week.
