New Delhi, May 23, 2026 — Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi met US Secretary of State Marco Rubio in New Delhi and reaffirmed the growing strength of the India-US Comprehensive Global Strategic Partnership during high-level discussions focused on regional stability, global peace, security cooperation, trade, energy, and defense ties.
The meeting took place during Rubio’s first official visit to India as US Secretary of State. According to officials, both leaders reviewed ongoing cooperation in key sectors including defense, technology, energy security, and the Indo-Pacific region. Prime Minister Modi said India and the United States would continue working closely “for global good,” highlighting the importance of the bilateral relationship amid rising geopolitical challenges.
The talks also covered regional developments in Asia, the Middle East, and the Indo-Pacific, with both sides emphasizing the need for peace, stability, and stronger strategic coordination. Rubio reportedly described India as a vital strategic partner for the United States and stressed Washington’s commitment to expanding cooperation with New Delhi.
Rubio’s India visit comes ahead of the upcoming Quad foreign ministers’ meeting involving India, the United States, Japan, and Australia. Analysts view the visit as part of broader efforts to strengthen India-US ties following recent trade tensions and global economic uncertainties. Energy cooperation, trade negotiations, and defense partnerships were also major points of discussion during the meeting.
