Évian-les-Bains, France | June 16, 2026 – Leaders of the Group of Seven (G7) nations gathered in the French resort town of Évian-les-Bains for the 52nd G7 Summit, with discussions dominated by the newly announced U.S.-Iran agreement, Russia’s war in Ukraine, global energy security, and international trade tensions.

The summit brought together leaders including Donald Trump, Emmanuel Macron, Keir Starmer, Giorgia Meloni, and other G7 representatives. France is hosting the summit from June 15–17 in Évian-les-Bains.

A major focus has been President Trump’s tentative agreement with Iran, which aims to end recent hostilities, reopen the Strait of Hormuz to international shipping, and establish new conditions related to Iran’s nuclear activities. The agreement has generated both optimism and skepticism among world leaders and lawmakers awaiting further details.

The war in Ukraine remains another central issue. G7 leaders discussed continued support for Ukraine and possible additional measures against Russia, including tougher sanctions targeting Russian oil exports. Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy held meetings with several leaders on the sidelines of the summit.

Other topics under discussion include critical minerals, artificial intelligence, global economic stability, supply-chain resilience, and efforts to reduce dependence on strategic chokepoints in global trade.

The summit has also been accompanied by large anti-G7 demonstrations in France and neighboring Switzerland, where protesters have criticized global inequality, corporate influence, and international economic policies.

The G7 Summit concludes on June 17, with leaders expected to issue joint statements on Ukraine, Middle East security, and global economic cooperation.
