Washington/Tehran, July 8, 2026 — The United States has launched a new wave of military strikes against Iranian targets after President Donald Trump declared that the recent ceasefire agreement with Tehran was effectively over. U.S. officials said the operation was carried out in retaliation for Iranian attacks on commercial vessels in the strategically vital Strait of Hormuz.

According to the U.S. Central Command (CENTCOM), American forces targeted multiple military facilities, including missile sites, air-defense systems, and command infrastructure in southern Iran. U.S. officials said the strikes were intended to reduce Iran’s military capabilities and protect international shipping lanes.

Iranian state media confirmed explosions in several coastal areas and condemned the attacks as a violation of its sovereignty. Tehran warned that it would respond to what it described as “continued U.S. aggression,” raising fears of a broader regional conflict.

The renewed fighting has heightened concerns over the security of the Strait of Hormuz, through which a significant share of the world’s oil exports passes. Oil prices rose amid fears of further disruption to global energy supplies and commercial shipping.

International leaders have urged restraint and called for an immediate return to diplomacy, warning that further escalation could threaten stability across the Middle East.
