New York | July 14, 2026 – India’s External Affairs Minister, Dr. S. Jaishankar, met with United Nations Secretary-General António Guterres at UN Headquarters in New York on Monday, holding wide-ranging discussions on key global developments and the future of multilateral cooperation.
Following the meeting, Jaishankar said they exchanged views on major international issues, including the situations in West Asia, Ukraine, and Sudan, while also reaffirming the strong partnership between India and the United Nations. He noted that the discussions highlighted the importance of effective multilateralism in addressing today’s global challenges.
The meeting came as India formally launched its campaign for election as a non-permanent member of the UN Security Council for the 2028–2029 term. During the launch, Jaishankar emphasized India’s commitment to international peace, sustainable development, and reforms to make the UN more representative and effective in addressing contemporary global issues.
The high-level engagement reflects India’s continued efforts to strengthen cooperation with the United Nations and to play a greater role in global governance amid rising geopolitical tensions and humanitarian challenges.
