Dr. Samrendra Pathak / New Delhi. The Nehru-Gandhi family ruled over independent India for over four decades. After Indira Gandhi now Rahul Gandhi, who is associated with this family has been questioned by the investigating agency in corruption case.

The allegations of corruption were also leveled against former Prime Ministers Pt. Jawaharlal Nehru and Rajiv Gandhi, but they were not questioned. But Rajiv Gandhi’s power was definitely lost in the year 1989, due to Bofors scandal.

Apart from the misuse of government machinery and the jeep scam, former Prime Minister Mrs. Gandhi, was questioned by the Shah Commission about the reasons for the emergency, She was arrested twice. This arrest was a big reason for her return again in 1980.

Mrs. Gandhi was first arrested on 3 October 1977, she was taken to the court on the second day, but the prosecution could not make any case against her and she was released, immediately. Her second arrest was made on 19 December 1978. She was kept in ward number 19 of Tihar Jail. She remained there for more than a week. In this protest, the Congressmen had not only filled the jails of the country but also the camp jails.

The ED’s questioning of MP Rahul Gandhi for two consecutive days & summons to Gandhi family’s daughter-in-law and Congress President Sonia Gandhi on June 23, reminds us of this four-decade-old story. This investigation against Rahul & Sonia is not related to any public scam but is for their ancestral property in the Nation Herald case. Congress condemned this action. L.S.
