New Delhi. In a landmark moment for the Indian media fraternity, senior journalist Sangeeta Barooah Pisharoty was elected on Sunday as the first woman president of the Press Club of India (PCI). Sangeeta Barooah Pisharoty Makes History as First Woman President of Press Club of India.
The election, held on Saturday with results announced the following day, saw a historic “clean sweep” by Pisharoty’s team. Her panel secured all office-bearer and managing committee positions, resulting in a 21-0 victory that underscores a significant shift in the leadership of the premier journalists’ body.
The election results established a new executive body to lead the PCI:
President: Sangeeta Barooah Pisharoty
Secretary General: Afzal Imam
Vice-President: Jatin Gandhi
Treasurer: Aditi Rajput (Elected unopposed)
Joint Secretary: P R Sunil (Elected unopposed)
Managing Committee Members :
The landslide victory extended to the 16-member managing committee. The newly elected managing committee members of PCI are Niraj Kumar, Abhishek Kumar Singh, Jahanvi Sen, Ashok Kaushik, Kallol Bhattacharjee, Praveen Jain, Agraj Pratap Singh, Manoj Sharma, Nyanima Basu, P B Suresh, V P Pandey, Prem Bahukhandi, Sneha Bhura, Javed Akhtar, Rezaul Hasan Laskar, and Sunil Kumar.
The Press Club of India serves as a vital hub for journalists in the national capital, and Pisharoty’s election as the first woman to lead the organization is being hailed as a progressive milestone for the industry.
SAARC Journalists Forum President Raju Lama and Secretary General Md. Abdur Rahman have congratulated Sangeeta Barooah Pisharoty, the newly elected President of the Press Club of India, extending their warmest greetings.
