New York, May 28, 2026 – Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi met with UN Secretary-General António Guterres on May 26, 2026, on the sidelines of a high-level United Nations Security Council meeting in New York City focused on defending the principles of the UN Charter and strengthening the UN-centered international system.
During the meeting, Wang Yi said the world is facing growing instability, regional conflicts, and increasing pressure on the United Nations. China, serving as the rotating president of the Security Council for May, organized the high-level session to reaffirm support for multilateralism and the authority of the UN.
Wang also emphasized China’s commitment to supporting the UN through cooperation on climate change, artificial intelligence, development, and global conflict resolution. António Guterres welcomed efforts to strengthen multilateral cooperation at a time of rising international tensions.
