Kathmandu, May 31, 2026 – US Deputy Secretary of State Sarah B. Rogers arrived in Kathmandu on May 31 after completing the India leg of her South and Central Asia tour, marking one of the highest-level U.S. diplomatic visits to Nepal in recent years.
She traveled from New Delhi and is scheduled to stay in Nepal for three days.
According to Nepalese media reports, Rogers is expected to hold meetings with Nepal’s Foreign Minister Shishir Khanal and Communications Minister Bikram Timilsina. She will also attend the Ascent Summit 2026, an event focused on mountaineering, adventure tourism, and high-altitude research.
The visit comes amid increasing diplomatic engagement between Washington and Kathmandu. Rogers is the third senior U.S. official to visit Nepal since the government led by Balendra Shah took office in March 2026 and is considered the most senior American diplomat to visit Nepal during that period.
Her broader regional tour includes visits to India, Nepal, Uzbekistan, and Turkmenistan from May 27 to June 10, reflecting continued U.S. engagement in South and Central Asia.
