New Delhi, June 6, 2026 — Nepal’s Foreign Minister Shisir Khanal and India’s External Affairs Minister S. Jaishankar held bilateral talks in New Delhi, emphasizing a new phase of cooperation between the two neighbors. Both sides described the relationship as “special” and expressed commitment to a transformative partnership.
Three Major Decisions Announced
1) Launch of Cross-Border Digital Payments
Nepal and India agreed to begin cross-border person-to-person (P2P) digital payment services, making it easier for citizens of both countries to transfer money and conduct transactions.
2) Handover of 84 Reconstruction Projects
India formally handed over 84 reconstruction projects completed under its post-earthquake assistance program in Nepal, covering sectors such as education, health, and community infrastructure.
3) Cooperation in Emerging Technologies
The two countries agreed to expand cooperation in emerging sectors, including artificial intelligence, digital technology, connectivity, and innovation.
The ministers also reviewed progress in trade, investment, energy, connectivity, and people-to-people ties. During the meeting, Jaishankar called for a “decisive shift” in bilateral engagement, while Khanal stated that Nepal carries “no old baggage” and seeks a genuinely transformative relationship with India.
The talks are being seen as an effort to reset and strengthen Nepal-India relations through practical cooperation and high-level political engagement.
