Paris, June 15, 2026 – French President Emmanuel Macron and U.S. President Donald Trump held talks in Évian-les-Bains, France, ahead of the G7 Summit, focusing on the newly announced U.S.-Iran agreement, global energy markets, and regional security.
Trump said the Iran deal could bring greater stability to the Middle East and highlighted the sharp decline in oil prices following the announcement. He told reporters that reopening the Strait of Hormuz and restoring shipping routes could ease pressure on global energy markets and support economic recovery.
Macron welcomed efforts toward a diplomatic resolution and described the agreement as important for global peace. He also indicated that France is prepared to assist with securing and clearing maritime routes in the Strait of Hormuz to help restore international shipping confidence.
The leaders’ meeting comes as G7 members gather to address major international challenges, including the Middle East situation, the war in Ukraine, global trade tensions, and energy security. The Iran agreement is expected to be a central topic throughout the summit.
Analysts noted that oil prices fell and global stock markets strengthened after news of the U.S.-Iran framework agreement, reflecting investor optimism that the reopening of the Strait of Hormuz could stabilize energy supplies.
