New Delhi, June 2, 2026 — Indian External Affairs Minister S. Jaishankar held talks with Rastriya Swatantra Party (RSP) President Rabi Lamichhane during the Nepali leader’s official visit to India. The meeting is being viewed as an important step in strengthening India–Nepal relations following Nepal’s recent political changes.
Lamichhane arrived in New Delhi at the invitation of Indian authorities and is holding a series of high-level meetings with senior Indian leaders. According to reports, discussions are focused on bilateral cooperation, democratic governance, economic partnerships, connectivity, and regional stability.
The visit comes at a significant moment in Nepal–India relations, with the RSP emerging as a major political force in Nepal following its strong performance in the 2026 general election. Indian leaders have been actively engaging with Nepal’s new leadership, including Prime Minister-designate Balendra Shah and RSP President Lamichhane.
Political observers say the Jaishankar–Lamichhane meeting signals New Delhi’s interest in maintaining close engagement with Nepal’s evolving political landscape and expanding cooperation on trade, infrastructure, people-to-people ties, and regional development.
The RSP delegation is also expected to meet other senior Indian officials and political leaders during its visit before returning to Kathmandu.
