Kathmandu, June 1, 2026 — Visiting U.S. Under Secretary of State for Public Diplomacy and Public Affairs Sarah B. Rogers held a courtesy meeting with Nepal’s Foreign Minister Shishir Khanal in Kathmandu during her official visit to Nepal. The meeting comes amid growing diplomatic engagement between Nepal and the United States and follows a series of high-level exchanges between the two countries.
During her visit, Rogers participated in the Ascent Summit 2026, where she emphasized the importance of innovation, tourism, entrepreneurship, and people-to-people ties in strengthening U.S.–Nepal relations. Discussions during her meetings in Kathmandu have focused on expanding economic cooperation, investment, technology partnerships, and cultural exchanges.
According to Nepali and U.S. officials, the visit reaffirms Washington’s commitment to deepening its longstanding partnership with Nepal through increased cooperation in trade, innovation, public diplomacy, and development initiatives. Rogers is also meeting government officials, business representatives, and alumni of U.S. exchange programs during her stay.
The visit is regarded as one of the highest-level U.S. diplomatic engagements with Nepal since the formation of the new government led by Prime Minister Balendra Shah, highlighting the growing importance of bilateral relations in South Asia.
